Toko Temple
Toko Temple is where water first gushed out at Yunomine Onsen. Hot-spring mineral deposits ("Yu-no-hana") accumulated to form the shape of a Healing Buddha who is enshrined as the principal object of veneration, Yunomine-Yakushi.
It is said that when the Yunomine hot spring was discovered, about 1,800 years ago, its waters were flowing out of Yunomine-Yakushi. Apparently this healing Buddha was therefore called Yunomune-Yakushi and this area became known as Yunomune Onsen. In later years the name changed to Yunomine.
