In the heart of Wataze Onsen there is a small hamlet beside the Yomura River called Minachi. The permanently wet rice paddies known as 'fuketa' are produced by the clear water gushing forth from the surrounding mountains and forests. As a nature observation park, the paddies also have observation huts and recreation trails. As well as the increasingly uncommon Japanese diving beetles, giant water bugs and whirligig beetles, dozens of kinds of dragonfly live here, including the smallest one in Japan, the "haccho dragonfly", which is only about 3cm in length. In Minachi you have the chance to get a close-up look at the life of aquatic creatures.
