Grave of Kenji Nakagami
Kenji Nakagami, who was born in Shingu City in 1946, was awarded the 74th Akutagawa Prize for his story of kinship and regional connection set in Shingu and entitled "Misaki" (The Cape). His many works, in which unique stories of Kumano unfold, include "Karekinada", "Sennen no Yuraku" and "Kiseki". He had a deep attachment to Kumano, and now rests in the Minamitani area of Shingu City. Many of his avid readers still visit his grave, where there are always many flowers. The characters carved on his gravestone are in his own hand.
