Dorokyo is a large gorge with cliffs rising up from the waters of the Kitagawa River, a tributary of the Kumano River that flows through the three prefectures of Wakayama, Nara and Mie. The gorge is around 100 m wide, and near Haccho its waters are said to be roughly 20 m deep. Under the name of Dorohaccho, it has been designated as a national site of particular scenic beauty and as a natural monument.
