Takahara Kumano Shrine
Kumano Shrine, which houses the guardian deity of the Takahara area, is also known as Takahara-oji Gongen. It is not one of the 99 Kumano ojis, but it is a historical shrine along the Kodo route, known for its enshrined kakebotoke with an inscription from 1403. The building with its roof of cedar bark is in the style of the Muromachi period, and is said to be the oldest building along the Kumano pilgrimage route. A camphor tree in the precinct is said to be about a thousand years old and seems to be telling the history of the shrine.
