Kinan Guide on the Go

Content Number:20715

As you follow the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, it is here that you first get a distant glimpse of Kumano Hongu Taisha, the present Oyunohara. The name Fushiogami comes from the pilgrims kneeling in worship to express their gratitude. There is a small stone shrine and a memorial tower dedicated to Izumi Shikibu in the remains of the Fushiogami-oji shrine.
