Yunomine-oji
Yunomine-oji was formerly a subordinate shrine of Kumano Hongu Taisha. The "Yu-nobori-shinji" ceremony, held prior to the annual festival on April 15, is a tradition that continues even today. In the early hours of the 13th, children who have cleansed themselves in the hot spring are carried on the shoulders of the priest and shrine representatives up to the shrine building of Yunomine-oji dressed in magnificent red brocade costumes and beating small drums decorated with comma-shaped marks. After completing the rite, they cross Dainichi Pass and head for Kumano Hongu Taisha.
You will also see a stone monument to Takayama-Kyoshi inscribed with "At the peak of beauty, today at Yunomine".
