Hama-oji (Oji shrine)
The history of this shrine goes back to the Kamakura era, and the shrine building still retains its original form. Even today local residents worship it as an Oji Gongen.
Two of Emperor Jinmu's elder brothers, who went into the seas of Kumano during Jinmu's eastern expedition and departed this life, are also enshrined here. It is thought to have been a shrine to the sea god since time immemorial.
A short distance from Hama-oji is the Ohama coast and the vast expanse of the Kumano Sea.
