Hinomisaki Lighthouse

Content Number:20802

Hinomisaki Lighthouse
In the beginning of 1895 (year 28 of the Meiji era) this steel lighthouse was built, however it was destroyed during the war in 1945 (year 20 of the Showa era).
The current lighthouse was rebuilt in 1951 (year 26 of the Showa era).
Because cruising ships look at the lighthouse's shape and color during the day to determine which lighthouse it is, the lighthouse became the first large-scale use of dirt-resistant tiling.
The height of the lighthouse is 140m above the water surface and its light reaches up to 40km away.
