Ikaruga-oji Shrine is one of the ninety-nine satellite shrines of the Kumano Kodo.
It is the oldest of the 99 oji shrines.
There are already records of it in the Chuyuki in 1109 (year 2 of the Tennin era).
The Pacific Ocean can be seen from the torii gates after climbing the steps to the shrine interior.
When visiting by car, follow National Highway 42 south about 1km from Inami River along the mountainside.
