The Muryo-ji Temple is located on the corner of one of Kushimoto narrow streets.
One of the leading and largest temples of the Tofuku-ji branch of the Rinzai-shu sect Kishu founded by the Zen priest Kokan.
The plantings of the southern style Japanese sago palms and hemp palms as well as the openness of the temple give it a bright and very guntemple-likeh atmosphere.
The temple also houses the Okyo Rosetsu Museum which is home to a large selection of Japanese fusuma paintings and is often called gE-no-Terah (the temple of pictures).
